一いち人にんの商あきないがやって来きました。兎うさぎの入はいったかごを持もっていました。そのくせ、「ロバの子こはいりませんか、ロバの子こ」と読よんで歩あるきました。長ちょうさんはちょうど、ロバが一いち匹ひき欲ほしいと思おもっていたところでしたので、商あきないの持もっているかごをのぞいてみました。「やあ、小ちいさいね」「子供こどもですからね」「これでは、大人おとなになってもあまり大おおきくなりますまい」「いやいや、大人おとなになったら、小屋こやくらいの大おおきさになる」「だまそうったってだめだよ」「本当ほんとうですよ。ごらんなさい、この耳みみの長ながいことを。これが大おおきくなる証拠しょうこです」見みると、なるほど、長ながい耳みみが二ふたつ、ニョッキリ生はえています。そこで長ちょうさんは、兎うさぎと知しらずに買かいました。さて長ちょうさんは家いえに帰かえると、早速さっそく、ロバに引ひかせる車くるまを作つくり始はじめました。何なにしろ、今いまに、小屋こやみたいに大おおきなロバになると言いうのですから、小ちいさな車くるまでは間まに合あいません。そこで、馬屋うまやほどの車くるまを作つくったのでありました。車くるまは出来上できあがりました。
