Which plan is right for me?
Samurai and Shogun both include unlimited imports and spaced repetition review, so the choice comes down to how much AI you use. Samurai's 500 monthly credits suit a learner who reads every day and asks Tomo-Sensei about the sentences that stop them. Shogun's 2,000 suit someone who chats at length or generates their own stories often. Chat uses credits on both plans, and Shogun is the one with a 14-day free trial.
Can I cancel or change my plan anytime?
Absolutely. There are no long-term contracts or hidden fees. You can upgrade, downgrade, or cancel your subscription at any time directly from your account settings. If you upgrade, we will automatically prorate the difference.
Is Tomo-Sensei better than a standard dictionary?
Yes. Standard dictionaries fail at context. Tomo-Sensei understands the entire sentence structure, explaining subtle nuances, slang, and complex grammar points just like a native Japanese tutor would. This drastically reduces frustration and keeps you in a "flow state" while reading native material.
What happens if I run out of AI Credits on the Samurai plan?
You will still have full access to your library, the immersive reader, standard dictionary lookups, and your SRS reviews. For more AI power, you can top up your credits in the shop without upgrading, or wait for your monthly refill. Shogun works the same way with a larger monthly allowance, so it is the plan to move to if you run out often.
Do unused AI Credits roll over?
Yes! We want you to read at your own pace. Unused subscription credits roll over to the next month (up to 2× your monthly allowance). Plus, any credits you purchase separately from the Credit Shop never expire.
Can I really import anything to read?
Yes! You can import EPUBs, PDFs, web text, or paste your own articles. Our engine instantly processes the text, adds contextual Furigana to match your level, and prepares it for interactive reading and AI analysis.
How does the Shogun free trial work?
The Shogun trial lasts 14 days and asks for a card up front, but we charge nothing while it runs. Cancel before it ends and you pay nothing and move to the free Ronin plan. Keep it and your Shogun subscription starts on day 15. Each account gets one trial, so if you have held any Yomimaru subscription before, even a cancelled one, checkout skips the trial.
What happens to my imported texts when the trial ends?
They stay. Every text you imported during the trial remains in your library and stays readable on the free Ronin plan, with the same furigana and dictionary lookups. What changes is new imports: Ronin includes 10 imports for the life of the account, counted across everything you have already brought in, so once you are past that number you need Samurai or Shogun to import more. Credits you bought in the shop never expire.
