子供が大ぜい遊んでいるところに雪がふって来ました。「ヤアイヤアイ　雪がふって来た雪降れ　ウント降れ塩になれ　砂糖になれ」とみんながよろこびました。「砂糖になったらどうするか」と大きな声がきこえましたので、ビックリしてその方を見ますと、白いひげを生やして、白い着物を着て、白い帽子を冠って、長いすきとおった氷柱のような杖を持ったお爺さんが立っておりました。子供達はおどろいてそのお爺さんの顔を見ていますと、お爺さんはニコニコ笑いながらも一度、「砂糖になったら何にするのか」と子供たちに聞きました。「お餅につけてたべる」と三吉が答えました。「お婆さんに舐めさせる」と忠太郎が言いました。「お庭の蜜蜂にやる」と玉子さんが言いました。お爺さんはさもさも嬉しそうに、「感心感心。お前たちはみんないい子だ。それじゃ塩になったらどうするかな」と尋ねました。「先生の目玉にすり込んでやる」

What you'll learn

The old man disappears, and snow falls: sugar for the kind children, salt for Bad Boy, which stings his eyes and sends him home crying.
