子供こどもが大だいぜい遊あそんでいるところに雪ゆきがふって来きました。「ヤアイヤアイ　雪ゆきがふって来きた雪ゆき降ふれ　ウント降ふれ塩しおになれ　砂糖さとうになれ」とみんながよろこびました。「砂糖さとうになったらどうするか」と大おおきな声こえがきこえましたので、ビックリしてその方ほうを見みますと、白しろいひげを生はやして、白しろい着物きものを着きて、白しろい帽子ぼうしを冠かんむりって、長ながいすきとおった氷柱つららのような杖つえを持もったお爺じいさんが立たっておりました。子供こども達たちはおどろいてそのお爺じいさんの顔かおを見みていますと、お爺じいさんはニコニコ笑わらいながらも一いち度ど、「砂糖さとうになったら何なににするのか」と子供こどもたちに聞ききました。「お餅もちにつけてたべる」と三吉みよしが答こたえました。「お婆ばあさんに舐なめさせる」と忠太郎ちゅうたろうが言いいました。「お庭にわの蜜蜂みつばちにやる」と玉子たまこさんが言いいました。お爺じいさんはさもさも嬉うれしそうに、「感心かんしん感心かんしん。お前まえたちはみんないい子こだ。それじゃ塩しおになったらどうするかな」と尋たずねました。「先生せんせいの目玉めだまにすり込こんでやる」

The first three children give kind answers, but Bad Boy (Akutaro) gives a mean answer. The old man disappears, and snow falls: sugar for the kind children, salt for Bad Boy, which stings his eyes and sends him home crying.
