謎なぞの手紙てがみこれから皆みなさんに少年しょうねん科学かがく探偵たんてい塚原つかはら俊夫としお君くんを紹介しょうかいします。俊夫としお君くんは今年ことし十じゅう二にですけれど、大人おとなも及およばぬ賢かしこい子こです。六ろく歳さいの時とき、三角形さんかっけいの内角ないかくの和わが二に直角ちょっかくになるということを自分じぶんで発見はっけんして、お父とうさんをびっくりさせました。尋常じんじょう一いち年ねんのとき、菜なの花はなや股またのぞきする土手どての児こらという俳句はいくを作つくって、学校がっこうの先生せんせいをアッと言いわせました。尋常じんじょう二に年ねんの頃ころにはもう、中学ちゅうがく卒業そつぎょう程度ていどの学識がくしきがありました。俊夫としお君くんは文学ぶんがくが好すきでしたけれど、それよりもいっそう科学かがくに興味きょうみを持もちました。試こころみに俊夫としお君くんに自動車じどうしゃの構造こうぞうを尋たずねてみなさい、その場ばで巧たくみな図ずを描えがいて説明せつめいしてくれます。また試こころみに象ぞうの赤血球せっけっきゅうの大おおきさは？　と聞きいてみなさい。言下げんかに九きゅう・四よんミクロンと答こたえます。俊夫としお君くんの作つくった遊星ゆうせいの運動うんどうを説明せつめいする模型もけいは特許とっきょになって、中学校ちゅうがっこうや専門せんもん学校がっこうで使つかわれています。こういうわけで俊夫としお君くんは小学校しょうがっこうを中途ちゅうとでやめて、独学どくがくで研究けんきゅうすることになりました。

What you'll learn

The story introduces Toshio, a prodigy detective and his assistant. They receive a cryptic letter predicting a theft. Soon after, Toshio's uncle reports that his red diamond has been stolen. Toshio investigates, finding a cipher in a newspaper clipping, which he decodes using Morse code. The message taunts him. Later, the detective retrieves the diamond from the culprit's hiding place and sets a trap for the unexpected culprit.
