Later, the detective retrieves the diamond from the culprit's hiding place and sets a trap for the unexpected culprit.

Read a sample in Japanese謎の手紙これから皆さんに少年科学探偵塚原俊夫君を紹介します。俊夫君は今年十二ですけれど、大人も及ばぬ賢い子です。六歳の時、三角形の内角の和が二直角になるということを自分で発見して、お父さんをびっくりさせました。尋常一年のとき、菜の花や股のぞきする土手の児らという俳句を作って、学校の先生をアッと言わせました。尋常二年の頃にはもう、中学卒業程度の学識がありました。俊夫君は文学が好きでしたけれど、それよりもいっそう科学に興味を持ちました。試みに俊夫君に自動車の構造を尋ねてみなさい、その場で巧みな図を描いて説明してくれます。また試みに象の赤血球の大きさは？ と聞いてみなさい。言下に九・四ミクロンと答えます。俊夫君の作った遊星の運動を説明する模型は特許になって、中学校や専門学校で使われています。こういうわけで俊夫君は小学校を中途でやめて、独学で研究することになりました。
