雀すずめが一銭いっせん銅貨どうかをひろいました。雀すずめはうれしくてうれしくてたまりません。ほかの雀すずめをみると、「ぼくおかねをもってるよ。」といって、くわえていた一いち銭せん銅貨どうかを砂すなの上うえにおいてみせてやりました。さて、日ひぐれになりました。すこしくらくなってきました。「や、遊あそびすぎちゃった。これはたいへんだ。」と雀すずめは、一銭いっせん銅貨どうかをくわえて、おおいそぎで水車すいしゃ小屋こやの方ほうへとんでいきました。この雀すずめは水車すいしゃ小屋こやののきばにすんでいたのでありました。まだ水車すいしゃ小屋こやにつかないまえ、はたけの上うえをとんでいたとき、あまりあわてたので、雀すずめは銅貨どうかを落おとしてしまいました。「や、これはしまった。」けれどあたりはもう暗くらくて、雀すずめの目めはよくみることができなくなっていたので、「あしたの朝あささがしにこよう。」といって、そのまま水車すいしゃ小屋こやの巣すにかえりました。その夜よるはたいへん寒さむかったので、雀すずめはかぜをひいてしまいました。それもそのはず、雪ゆきがどっさりふったのでありました。
