学校がっこうへいくとちゅうに、大おおきな池いけがありました。一いち年生ねんせいたちが、朝あさそこを通とおりかかりました。池いけの中なかにはひよめが五ご六ろくっぱ、黒くろくうかんでおりました。それをみると一いち年生ねんせいたちは、いつものように声こえをそろえて、ひイよめ、ひよめ、だんごやアるにくウぐウれッ、とうたいました。するとひよめは頭あたまからぷくりと水すいのなかにもぐりました。だんごがもらえるのをよろこんでいるようにみえました。けれど一いち年生ねんせいたちは、ひよめにだんごをやりませんでした。学校がっこうへゆくのにだんごなどもっている子こはありません。一いち年生ねんせいたちは、それから学校がっこうにきました。学校がっこうでは先生せんせいが教おしえました。「みなさん、うそをついてはなりません。うそをつくのはたいへんわるいことです。むかしの人ひとは、うそをつくと死しんでから赤あか鬼おにに、舌したべろを釘くぎぬきでひっこぬかれるといったものです。うそをついてはなりません。さあ、わかった人ひとは手てをあげて。」みんなが手てをあげました。
