遠江とおとうみの御前崎おまえざきへ行いったのは大正たいしょう十じゅう四よん年ねんの二月にがつ二に日にちであった。岬みさきには灯台とうだいがあって無線むせん電信でんしんの設備せつびもあった。その灯台とうだいの灯光とうこうは六ろく十じゅう三さん万まんカンデラで十じゅう九きゅう海里かいり半はんの遠距離えんきょりに及およぶ回転かいてん灯とうであった。私わたしは灯台とうだいの中なかを見みせてもらって、その後ごで窓まどの外そとへ眼めをやった。沖合おきあい遥はるかに霞かすみの中なかに、敷根しきねらしい島しまと大島おおしまらしい島しまのどんよりと浮うかんでいるのを見みた。岬みさきの東端ひがしばたの海中かいちゅうには、御前岩ごぜんいわ、俗ぞくに沖おきの御前ごぜんと言いわれている岩いわがあって、蒼あお味みだった潮しおの上うえにその頭あたまを現あらわしていた。その沖おきの御前ごぜんの西にしにはドド根ねという一大いちだい暗礁あんしょうがあって、その付近ふきんは古来こらい数すう限かぎりなく船舶せんぱくを呑のんでいる危険きけん区域くいきであった。私わたしを案内あんないしてくれた事務じむ員いんの一いち人にんは奇怪きかいな話はなしをしてくれた。それは、夏なつから秋あきの初はじめへかけてのことであるが、真紅しんくな血ちのように染そまった太陽たいようが、荒あれ狂くるっている波なみと波なみの間まに落おちる時分じぶんになると、西にしの方ほうから真紅しんくな帆ほをあげた帆前船ほまえせんが来くるので、「真紅しんくな帆ほを巻まいた船ふねだ、不思議ふしぎな船ふねだ、どこへ行いくだろう」
