大正たいしょう十じゅう二に年ねんの震災しんさいの時ときであった。幡はたヶ谷たにに住すんでいた三好みよし七郎しちろうと云いう人ひとの許もとへ、荻原おぎわら高こう三郎さぶろうと云いう知人ちじんが避難ひなんして来きて、一月いちがつばかり厄介やっかいになっていて他たへ移うつって往ったが、移うつって往ゆく時とき、「大事だいじの書類しょるいが入いれてあるから、すまないが預あずかっておいてもらいたい」と云ゆって、高たかさ三さん尺しゃく位いの箱はこを置おいて往ったので、三好みよしの方ほうではそれを壁かべ厨くりやへ入いれておいた。ところで、翌年よくねんになって七なな郎ろうが病気びょうきになって夜よるになると、「うん、うん」と云ゆって、魘うなされるので、女房にょうぼうの留とめが鬼おに魅みをわるがって、「おまえさん、どうしたの」と云ゆって聞きいてみると、七郎しちろうは蒼あおい顔かおをして、「彼かれの箱はこの中なかから、男おとこと女おんなが出でて来きて紙幣しへいを数かぞえる」と云ゆったが、そのうちに死しんでしまった。ところで、それから間まもなく長女ちょうじょの芳よしと次男じなんの次郎じろうと云いうのが病気びょうきになった。そして、次郎じろうは夜よるになると、「何なん人にんか来きた」と云ゆって飛とび起おきたり、突然とつぜん、「わっ」
