やまでらのおしょうさんがびょうきになりましたので、かわりにこぞうさんがだんかへおきょうをよみにいきました。おきょうをわすれないように、こぞうさんはみちみちよんでいきました。「キミョ、ムリョ、ジュノ、ライ……」すると、なたねばたけのなかにうさぎがいて、「こぼうず、あおぼうず」とよびました。「なんだい」「あそんでおいきよ」そこで、こぞうさんはうさぎとあそびました。しばらくすると、「やっ、しまった。おきょうをわすれちゃった」とこぞうさんがさけびました。するとうさぎは、「そんならおきょうのかわりに、『むこうのほそみち、ぼたんがさいた』とおうたいよ」とおしえました。こぞうさんはだんかへいきました。そして、うさぎのおしえてくれたように、ほとけさまのまえで、「むこうのほそみち、ぼたんがさいた、さいた、さいた、ぼたんがさいた」
