Read a sample in Japaneseある小学校における手工の時間に、Ｆという教師の経験した話。その日Ｆは生徒一同に同じ分量の粘土を与えて、各自勝手な物を作らせてみようと企てた。生徒は皆大いに喜んで各自思い思いに、馬だの牛だの人形だの茄子だの胡瓜だのを作った。ところが、中にただ一人時間が過ぎても、ぼんやり何か考え込んでいて何も作らない生徒があった。彼はもともとその級第一の劣等児であった。算術や読方はいうまでもなく、学科という学科は悉くゼロに近い点数をとっていた。ただ不思議に彼は自然の風物を愛する点において他の児童に見ることができない豊かさを持っていた。空だの、草だの、木だのに対する彼の愛着は極めて深かった。時には授業中をもかまわずに窓の外の鳥の音に誘われて、ふらふらと教室を出て行こうとするようなことさえあった。
