この秘話ひわをしてくれたＮ博士はかせも、先々さきざき月つきこの世よを去さった。今いまは、博士はかせの許可きょかを得えることなしに、ちょっぴり書かき綴つづるわけだが、Ｎ博士はかせの霊魂れいこんなるものがあらば、にがい顔かおをするかもしれない。以下いかは、Ｎ博士はかせの物語ものがたるところだ。私わたしは大正たいしょう十じゅう五ご年ねん十二月じゅうにがつ二に十じゅう六ろく日にちの昼間ひるま、霧島きりしまの山中さんちゅうにおいて、前代未聞ぜんだいみもんの妖怪ようかいに出会であった。当時とうじ私わたしは、冬山ふゆやまにおける動物どうぶつの生態せいたい研究けんきゅうをつづけていたのだ。私わたしはキャンプを張はり、幾いく週間しゅうかんも山中さんちゅうで起おき伏ふしていた。あたりはかなり深ふかい山懐やまふところで、木き樵きこりも見みかけず、猟師りょうしにさえ会あわなかった。私わたしひとりでこの深山みやまを占有せんゆうしているような気持きもちがし、私わたしの心こころは暢とおる々としていた。或あるる朝あさ、起おきてキャンプを出でてみると、外そとは真白まっしろになっていた。降雪こうせつが夜よるのうちにあったのだ。そしてその日ひ、妖怪ようかいに出会であったのである。その妖怪ようかいは雪ゆきどけの水みずが落おちて、水溜みずためを作つくっているそのそばにいた。
